The eagle, a majestic bird of prey, is celebrated for its impressive size and distinctive features. With a wingspan reaching up to 7 feet, eagles rank among the largest birds in the sky. Their speed is equally remarkable; certain species can dive at velocities surpassing 100 miles per hour, making them formidable hunters. And let’s not forget their sharp, hooked beaks designed for tearing flesh, which sounds a bit ominous until you realize they’re just not fans of the salad bar.

The striking contrast of their plumage, often in rich browns and whites, enhances their regal appearance, symbolizing strength and freedom in various cultures.

In essence, the eagle represents a blend of power, agility, and beauty that captivates all who witness it, reminding us that sometimes, it’s good to soar above the chaos… or at least above the traffic!

Eagle Symbolism in Mythology and Religion

Native Americans

In Native American culture, the eagle holds profound significance as a symbol that embodies a spiritual connection between Earth and the Creator, serving as a messenger that bridges the two realms. The eagle represents freedom, wisdom, and clarity of vision. His purpose - as a spirit animal - is to guide individuals in their personal growth and decision-making processes. Eagle feathers are considered sacred, symbolizing honor and bravery, and they are often gifted to individuals as a mark of achievement. Many tribes, such as the Lakota and the Navajo, incorporate the eagle into their spiritual practices and ceremonies. For instance, the Lakota people perform the "Eagle Dance," a ceremonial ritual that honors the eagle's spirit and its connection to the Great Spirit. We also know that eagle feathers are used in various ceremonies, including healing rituals and rites of passage. They are believed to carry the prayers of the people to the Creator, while reinforcing our connection and respect to Mother Nature.

Japanese Culture

In Japan, the eagle, particularly the golden eagle, is often associated with the samurai spirit. The eagle is also featured in traditional art, Japanese tattoos and folklore, always as a carrier of honour.

Ancient Rome

In Ancient Rome, the eagle was a symbol of power and authority, often associated with the military and the Caesar, therefore featured prominently on coins.

Mexican Culture

The golden eagle is a national symbol of Mexico, featured on the country's flag, standing on a cactus while devouring a snake, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. The mythology behind it is that this picture was the message they received from God as for where to built their city. The snake symbolizes their countless enemies.

Greek Mythology

In Greek mythology, the eagle was associated with Zeus, the king of the gods, symbolizing divine authority and power. It was also seen as a protector and a messenger, embodying wisdom and strength.

In ancient Egypt , the eagle, particularly the falcon, was closely associated with the sky god Horus, symbolizing royalty and protection, embodying the authority of the pharaoh.

In the famous myth of Osiris, Horus avenged his father's death by battling the god Set, and his falcon form represented his divine power and vigilance. The Eye of Horus, which is depicted as a stylized eye with a falcon's features, served as a powerful amulet for protection and healing, reinforcing the connection between the falcon and divine guardianship.

The Eagle chakra connection

“Chakra” is a Sanskrit word literally meaning "wheel."

The chakra energy system has seven basic energy centres, or energy wheels on the human body. Each of them is represented as a lotus flower with different number of petals and is also associated with the energy of an animal, a color, a shape, as well as a natural element.
